Uniquely Falklands celebrates the landscape, wildlife and people of the Islands through a visual narrative and allows us a glimpse into this beautiful, isolated and unique archipelago over 8,000 miles away. Unmissable.
"Captured by a talented team of photographers, Uniquely Falklands is an affectionate snapshot of the inimitable Falkland Islands, featuring both Islanders and members of the military community. It is fitting that profits from the sale of this book will support an important armed forces charity, the Royal British Legion." Colin Roberts CVO, Governor.
Michael Underwood
In this fascinating book, architect Michael Underwood brings to life the story of Portsmouth’s great Gunwharf.
Using never before published maps, plans, drawings, illustrations and photographs he follows the progress of the site reflecting the changing technology of warfare, as well as developments in architecture from the early 18th century.
The story continues through a vitally important era as HMS Vernon to its transformation in the 21st century into the UK’s best retail, residential and leisure waterfront.
Christopher Balfour
A 1955 journey to the Boharak plain in a veteran Land Rover.
In 1955 Afghanistan was in the middle of King Zahir Shah’s forty year peaceful rule. Zahir had been appointed, aged 19, after his well-liked father, Nadir, was assassinated in 1933, after only four years in power. Nadir’s cousin, Amanullah, was exiled to Italy in 1929. This was because of his unpopular attempts at modernisation following his trips to Europe. At this time a team from Cambridge travelled overland to that mountainous country.
